Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Theme park in San Antonio, United States
Six Flags Fiesta Texas is an amusement park in northern San Antonio, Texas, built on the site of a former quarry and home to twelve roller coasters and many other rides. The park is divided into themed sections representing different cultural influences in the state, with live entertainment stages and dining facilities throughout.
The site opened in 1992 as a music-focused park after the former cement quarry was transformed. Time Warner took over the property three years after opening and incorporated it into the Six Flags chain.
The park's name honors the six different nations that ruled over Texas, while the themed areas reflect these influences through architecture and design. Visitors move through recreations of Texan landscapes, from Spanish colonial buildings to 19th-century German settlements.
The park opens year-round with operating days varying by season, and offers restaurants and souvenir shops in every themed area. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the grounds are large and some sections include slopes and stairs.
The Iron Rattler roller coaster uses the natural limestone quarry walls as part of its track and runs along the exposed rock faces. Some rides sit below the original ground level and move through the depressions of the old quarry.
