Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, Nature sanctuary in Memorial City, Houston, United States

Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary is a 17.5-acre (7 hectare) woodland area along Rummel Creek with different habitats including forests, wetlands, and prairies. These spaces support more than 200 bird species and create a diverse ecological environment.

The sanctuary was founded in 1975 when a scientist donated her land to the Houston Audubon Society to protect bird species. This donation made it possible to establish a conservation project that continues to this day.

The sanctuary is named after a woman devoted to nature conservation, and her legacy shapes the place today. Visitors can experience local nature programs and environmental education in a restored log cabin.

The trail system is accessible to visitors daily with free entry. Plan to wear comfortable shoes since the terrain involves walking through wooded areas and along the creek.

The site operates a specialized plant nursery that grows native grasses and wildflowers for coastal restoration work in the region. These plants play an important role in strengthening local ecosystems.
