Kaur, Administrative regency in Bengkulu Province, Indonesia.
Kaur is an administrative regency in Bengkulu Province located in western Sumatra, spanning a large territory divided into fifteen districts. Its administrative center, Bintuhan, oversees approximately 192 villages and three urban areas spread across the region.
The regency was established in 2003 when it separated from South Bengkulu through official legislation, becoming an independent administrative entity. Since its creation, the initial seven districts expanded as the regency developed and reorganized its internal structure.
The population includes several ethnic groups such as Basemah, Semende, Kaur, and Lampung communities, with Islam being the predominant faith practiced here. This diversity shapes the social fabric and daily interactions throughout the region.
Visitors can find administrative services and government offices concentrated in Bintuhan, the main administrative hub of the region. The terrain is relatively flat and low-lying, making it easy to navigate between the various villages and urban settlements scattered throughout.
The name Bintuhan originates from a historical cold outbreak event that occurred during the colonial period, marking the region with a distinctive naming story. Few visitors realize this meteorological connection shaped the identity of the administrative center in such an unusual way.
