Barrington Plaza

Barrington Plaza is a residential complex in Sawtelle with three buildings containing around 700 apartments offering views of the city, mountains, and Pacific Ocean. The development also includes retail spaces, restaurants, and a multi-level parking structure.

The complex was completed in 1962 and was at that time the largest private residential development in the western United States. The project was part of the major expansion to house Los Angeles growing population.

The complex reflects 1960s residential design and shows how Los Angeles was growing rapidly at that time. Visitors can see the broad balconies and open areas that were typical of this era.

The complex is located on Wilshire Boulevard in an accessible area served by public transportation. The site has abundant parking options and is surrounded by shopping and dining venues that serve both residents and visitors.

The complex was designed with specific safety features that were relevant during the Cold War era. A significant portion of the parking structure was actually built as a protective shelter to provide refuge in case of emergencies.
