Manta, Municipality in Valle de Tenza, Colombia
Manta is a municipality located in the mountainous region of northeastern Cundinamarca at an elevation of about 1,924 meters (6,313 feet). The settlement sits within an area characterized by steep slopes and fertile valleys suitable for agricultural activity.
The settlement was founded in 1593 by Miguel de Ibarra on territories originally inhabited by Muisca peoples. It received official parish status in 1772 under the New Granada administration.
The name comes from the Muysca language. The Cathedral of San Joaquín stands as the spiritual center where the community gathers for worship and celebrations.
The area is best visited during drier months, as mountain paths can become slippery and difficult to navigate in rain. Sturdy footwear is recommended for walking on uneven terrain and steep inclines throughout the region.
The area features several waterfalls and natural lakes, including Quebrada del Golpe waterfall and Laguna La Petaca. These water features serve as natural landmarks and gathering spots within the mountain landscape.
