Ponte Vedra Beach

Ponte Vedra Beach is a coastal settlement in St. Johns County on Florida's northeast shore, known for its sandy beaches and golf facilities. The dunes rise noticeably above sea level, while resorts and residential areas line the coast.

The settlement began as Mineral City in 1914, when minerals were extracted here. The renaming took place in 1929 to give the place a more elegant image.

The settlement took its name from a Spanish coastal town, echoing Florida's early colonial history. The golf course with its famous island 17th hole has become a landmark that draws visitors from around the world.

Beach access points can be found at Mickler's Landing and at the GTM Reserve, where parking is available. Visitors without county residency must pay a parking fee.

The coast yields numerous shark teeth, both modern and fossilized specimens that collectors seek out. The finds come from different eras and wash up regularly on the sand.
