Washoe Creek, Perennial stream in Sonoma County, United States
Washoe Creek is a perennial stream in Sonoma County that flows northeast through the Meacham Hills toward Rohnert Park. The water eventually joins the Laguna de Santa Rosa wetland system and supplies part of the broader Russian River basin.
The Coast Miwok people lived along these banks in ancient times, relying on the flowing water as a vital resource. Later, agricultural and suburban development gradually altered the surrounding landscape during the past two centuries.
Native riparian woodlands and Valley Oak savanna defined the original landscape surrounding Washoe Creek before agricultural development transformed the region.
The stream flows year-round, so you will see moving water regardless of the season. Access is possible from nearby roads and hiking areas in the surrounding hills, though there are no formal visitor facilities along the banks.
The lower section of Washoe Creek exhibits higher nitrate concentrations compared to other waterways within the Laguna de Santa Rosa watershed.
