Brown Estate, Family winery in Chiles Valley, Napa Valley, US.
Brown Estate is a winery in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, California, growing Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Petite Sirah. The property includes stone buildings and redwood structures used for winemaking, alongside a separate tasting room located in downtown Napa.
The Brown family bought the then-abandoned ranch in 1980 and restored several old structures on the land, including a stone building from the 19th century and a Victorian house. Commercial winemaking followed in the 1990s, once the vineyards had been established on the property.
Brown Estate is the first Black family-owned estate winery in Napa Valley, which gives it a distinct place in the story of the region. The downtown Napa tasting room reflects this with a modern, open setting that feels personal and rooted in family identity.
Tastings take place at the downtown Napa tasting room, where wines are served alongside cheese and charcuterie boards. Reservations are recommended, as spots fill up and walk-ins may not always be available.
Brown Estate was among the first wineries to put a hashtag label on a wine bottle, at a time when that was almost unheard of in the wine world. The move was a way to reach a younger audience and signal that wine culture could speak a different language.
