The downtown area is walkable, but a car is generally needed to reach outlying neighborhoods and services. City offices provide basic information on municipal services, waste collection schedules, and community programs through their website and in person.
The rivers surrounding the town have flooded many times over the decades, leading to the construction of levees and flood barriers that now shape much of the waterfront. Some of these structures remain visible along the edges of the city, marking the ongoing relationship between the settlement and its waterways.
