Live Oak Historic Commercial District
Live Oak Historic Commercial District, Historic commercial district in Live Oak, California.
The Live Oak Historic Commercial District is a commercial area in California containing buildings developed between 1875 and 1930. Eight structures line Broadway Street, displaying architectural styles that range from Classical Revival to Italianate designs.
The Odd Fellows Building was constructed in 1878 and marked the start of commercial development in Live Oak. Its presence encouraged the growth of additional business structures that gradually shaped the district into what exists today.
The Odd Fellows Building served as a gathering place where residents came together for lectures and social events that strengthened community bonds. This role made the structure central to how local people connected and spent their time together.
The district extends over several blocks between Pennington Road and Elm Street and is easy to explore on foot. A row of palm trees lines the street, offering shade during your visit and helping you identify the historic area.
The Odd Fellows Building underwent restoration in 2000 that transformed it into a modern structure with senior housing on the upper floor and commercial spaces below. This renovation shows how old buildings can take on new purposes while keeping their importance intact.
