The main street features historic buildings like the Busch Building and Masonic Lodge 164 that recall the mining community's past. These structures shape the character of the settlement and tell of its roots as a mining hub.
The Kentucky Mine operates as a museum today, giving visitors insight into the region's mining heritage. The area around the settlement offers hiking trails, fishing spots along river sections, and mountain biking routes for outdoor activities.
In September 1869, miners discovered the Monumental Nugget weighing about 48 kilograms, one of California's largest gold finds. This discovery remains a highlight of the place's mining history to this day.
