Schroeder Mountain

Schroeder Mountain is a peak in the Sierra Nevada at roughly 6,942 feet (2,116 meters), with steep slopes covered by dense forest vegetation. The terrain around the summit appears rugged and difficult to traverse, with thick woodland covering the mountainside.

The peak was named after John Schroeder, a pioneer who arrived during California's 1852 Gold Rush and built a homestead in Sierra County. This naming reflects the era when settlers were establishing communities throughout the mountain region.

Local residents have called this peak Fuzz Top since the 1960s, a nickname inspired by how its thick vegetation looks from the valleys below.

No established trails lead to the summit, so visitors need solid navigation skills and careful preparation. Expect difficult terrain, thick forest, and no facilities on the route.

At the mountain's base sits the Clark Station Summer Home Tract, a recreational area within Tahoe National Forest with visitor amenities. This facility offers a convenient jumping-off point for exploring the surrounding forest landscape.
