Thousand Lakes Wilderness, US Wilderness Area in Shasta County, California
The Thousand Lakes Wilderness spans 16,335 acres of volcanic terrain and contains seven major lakes within the Lassen National Forest mountain range.
The United States Congress designated this protected natural area in 1964 through the Wilderness Act to preserve its geological and ecological features.
Native American tribes utilized the natural resources of this land, establishing deep connections with the lakes, forests, and mountain landscapes.
Three trailheads provide access to 21 miles of maintained paths, with snow typically melting by early June and fishing opportunities in multiple lakes.
Crater Peak stands at 8,677 feet as the highest point in Lassen National Forest, shaped by ancient glacial erosion of the original Thousand Lakes Volcano.
