Fish Lake, lake in Oregon, United States of America
Fish Lake is a reservoir in Oregon's mountains, located near two young volcanoes: Mount McLoughlin and Brown Mountain. The water is surrounded by dense forests and sits at about 4,600 feet elevation, with a maximum depth of around 30 feet.
Originally a natural lake, it was transformed into a reservoir in the early 1900s when a dam was constructed across an inlet creek. This change enlarged the water body and made it possible for irrigation and recreational use.
The lake is accessible year-round and lies less than one hour from Medford or Klamath Falls via Highway 140. Visitors should bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes, and warm layers, as mountain weather can change quickly.
The lake is home to tiger trout, an unusual sterile hybrid of brown trout and brook trout, deliberately stocked to help control the food chain. Additionally, landlocked Chinook salmon have been introduced and are actively pursued by anglers for their size.
