Mount Scott, Mountain summit in Crater Lake National Park, US
Mount Scott is the highest peak within Crater Lake National Park, rising sharply above the surrounding landscape. Dense forests of Douglas fir and white pine cover its slopes and shape the character of this summit.
The peak is named after an Oregon pioneer from the 1800s and owes its shape to volcanic activity in the Cascade Range. This mountain formed as part of a larger volcanic system that shaped the region.
The fire lookout tower at the summit, constructed in 1924 and rebuilt in 1952, stands as the highest-elevation lookout structure remaining in Oregon.
The trail to the summit begins at Rim Drive and climbs through multiple switchbacks over a short distance. The elevation gain is steady, so good fitness helps make the hike more enjoyable.
A fire lookout tower once stood at the summit, greeting hikers who completed the challenging climb for many decades. This historic structure remains visible and serves as a notable landmark for those reaching the top.
