Mount Talbert

Mount Talbert, Volcanic summit in Clackamas County, Oregon, United States.

Mount Talbert is a volcanic summit in Clackamas County that rises approximately 740 feet above sea level and is covered in dense forest with Douglas firs and white oak trees. A network of marked trails crosses the terrain, guiding visitors through different sections of woodland.

The mountain takes its name from Francis Talbert, who established a land claim of about 300 acres in this area during 1852. Heavy logging took place in the early 1900s before the site was later protected as a park.

The park displays educational signs that explain the local plant life and geology to visitors as they explore the trails. You can observe how different tree species grow together across the landscape while walking through the forest.

The area is accessible from two main trailheads and offers about 4 miles of marked paths for different fitness levels. The park is open from sunrise to sunset, so plan your visit accordingly to avoid being caught in fading light.

Park managers selectively remove certain Douglas firs to help fire-resistant white oak trees grow more readily. This active forest management supports local biodiversity while preparing the landscape for natural fire cycles.
