Hope Island is an island in Queen Charlotte Strait off the Central Coast of British Columbia, separated from Vancouver Island by Goletas Channel. The reserve encompasses a large landmass and features natural anchorages such as Bull Harbour.
The island was named in 1862 by Captain George Henry Richards of the British Navy to honor James Hope of the Royal Navy. It has long been an important place for the Tlatlasikwala First Nation to live and conduct their activities in this region.
The Tlatlasikwala First Nation considers this place their territory and maintains their historical connection to the land. The community uses the waters and surrounding area following traditions passed down through generations.
