Bank of California Building, Bank building in Downtown Seattle, United States.
The Bank of California Building at 815 2nd Avenue is a 1924 bank structure featuring a gray glazed terra cotta facade with Roman ionic columns. The interior contains a rotunda ceiling spanning the main banking hall, which measures 60 by 70 feet.
Construction took place in 1924 on the site where the Epler Block once stood, and the building served as the Bank of California headquarters until 1974. Ownership later passed to other institutions before becoming a Key Bank branch in 1993.
The interior banking hall displays variegated marble from France that catches light from above, creating visual richness throughout the space. Visitors immediately notice this fine craftsmanship when entering the building.
The building operates as an active bank branch with access to the main public banking hall during business hours. Visitors should note that only publicly accessible areas can be toured, not the full interior spaces.
The basement contains original employee recreation rooms that offer a glimpse into early work-life amenities from the banking era. A skylight was painted over during World War II but has since been restored to reveal its original function.
