Seattle Chinese Garden, Chinese garden in West Seattle, United States.
The Seattle Chinese Garden is a Chinese garden in South Seattle covering about 6 acres near South Seattle Community College. It features traditional Sichuan-style elements including water features, natural rock formations, and winding pathways throughout the space.
The garden grew from a partnership between Seattle and its sister city Chongqing established in 1983. This connection sparked ongoing cultural exchange programs between the two cities.
The Song Mei Pavilion anchors the garden's heart and was assembled on-site by artisans from Chongqing using traditional construction methods. Visitors can see how the pavilion's design reflects the architectural heritage of its source region.
The garden has about 2 miles of walking paths and free parking available, making it easy to explore the entire grounds. It is open year-round and requires no entrance fee, keeping it accessible to everyone at any time.
This is the only Sichuan-style garden outside of China, displaying design elements specific to that particular Chinese region. The artisans who built it brought their knowledge directly from their home city.
