The Enchantments

The Enchantments consists of multiple granite peaks surrounding a network of alpine lakes within Washington's Cascade Mountains. The system spreads across rocky terrain with clear, cold waters framed by steep slopes and granite formations.

Native American tribes hunted and gathered in these mountains long before European settlement in the Pacific Northwest. This early use shaped the relationship between people and the mountain landscape for many generations.

The lakes draw climbers, hikers, and photographers who document how water colors shift with the seasons. People gather here to experience the alpine landscape and share their adventures with one another.

Access for overnight camping requires a permit obtained through a lottery system from May through October. Visitors should prepare for sudden weather changes and plan to carry water and all necessary gear for the backcountry experience.

Mountain goats regularly traverse the granite formations near the lakes, creating natural pathways across the rocky terrain. These animals are perfectly adapted to the steep slopes and can often be spotted moving skillfully over the rock.
