Wind Wolves Preserve spans 93,000 acres of rolling hills, canyons, and grasslands connecting the Coast Ranges with the Sierra Nevada mountains.
The land functioned as a Mexican grant in 1842 before transforming into a cattle ranch that operated from 1850 through the 1990s.
Native American archaeological sites within the preserve contain intricate rock art and Cache Cave holds an extensive collection of ancient artifacts.
The preserve offers 28 miles of hiking trails through various terrains, with free admission and operating hours that change according to seasons.
The reintroduction of 19 tule elk in 1998 resulted in a population growth to over 400 individuals by 2022.
