Wind Wolves Preserve

Wind Wolves Preserve is a nature reserve featuring rolling hills, canyons, and grasslands that connect different mountain ranges across a large area. The land contains diverse habitats where various plants and animals live together.

The land was originally a Mexican land grant in 1842 and later became a cattle ranch for more than a century. It was converted into a protected reserve in recent decades.

Archaeological sites throughout this land show rock art created by indigenous peoples who lived here long ago. Cache Cave holds a notable collection of ancient objects that visitors can learn about during their time here.

The reserve is free to enter and offers hiking trails of varying difficulty across the landscape. Conditions and access times change with the seasons, so it is worth checking before visiting.

A herd of tule elk was reintroduced here in the 1990s after the species had nearly disappeared from the region. The animals have since multiplied considerably, giving visitors a chance to see these rare creatures today.
