The Chumash people called this mountain Toshololo, meaning mountain of the east, based on where the morning star appears in the sky. This name shows how indigenous groups connected the landscape to their observations of the heavens.
The summit is reachable by forest road, though snow conditions in winter can make travel difficult. Visitors should check weather conditions and bring appropriate gear for the elevation.
This summit marks where the boundaries of three California counties meet. Nearby runs Interstate 5, and power lines from Southern California Edison pass at the mountain's base.
