Lake Piru is a man-made reservoir covering approximately 1,240 acres with a maximum depth of 130 feet, nestled within the Topatopa Mountains and Los Padres National Forest in Ventura County.
The reservoir was created in 1955 through the construction of the Santa Felicia Dam on Piru Creek, serving as part of the United Water Conservation District's water management system established in 1950.
Lake Piru has served as a filming location for various television series including Supernatural and Malcolm in the Middle, as well as the NSYNC music video Bye Bye Bye.
The Lake Piru Recreation Area features 238 campsites with water and electric hookups, a full-service marina with 66 boat slips, and prohibits swimming following safety incidents in 2020.
Lake Piru is the only lake in Ventura County with a permanent swimming ban, implemented after multiple drowning incidents including the tragic death of actress Naya Rivera.
