Magic Flyer, Steel roller coaster in Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia, California, US
Magic Flyer is a wooden roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California, with an oval layout, gentle drops, and two 180-degree turns. A single train runs along the track and carries 12 passengers at a time at a moderate speed.
The coaster was built in the 1940s as Little Dipper at Beverly Park in Los Angeles, then moved to Six Flags Magic Mountain in 1971 under the name Clown Coaster. In 2008, it received a new look with trains styled after characters from the Thomas and Friends television series.
The ride has carried different names over the years, including Wile E. Coyote Coaster and Percy's Railway from Thomas and Friends. These changes show how the park updated its attractions to feature characters that appeal to young children and families.
This ride is designed for young children and offers a gentler experience than most other coasters in the park. Going early in the morning or later in the afternoon usually means shorter lines.
Magic Flyer is among the oldest still-operating coasters in the US, with roots going back to the 1940s. Few rides anywhere have survived across multiple decades and two different parks to remain in daily use.
