Viper, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain, California, US.
Viper is a steel roller coaster in California and ranks among the major looping structures at the park. The track runs through seven inversions and reaches a top speed of 70 miles per hour (112 kilometers per hour) during the ride.
The installation opened in April 1990 and set records for height and speed among looping coasters at that time. It was built by manufacturer Arrow Dynamics and represented one of the last major projects from that company.
The ride served as a filming location for movies and television shows during the 1990s. Its red tubular steel track stands out across the park landscape and has become part of the visual identity of the venue.
The ride begins with a steep climb and then moves through several inversions in quick succession. Riders should be prepared for forceful movements and sudden direction changes throughout the course.
This installation is the last operating roller coaster from Arrow Dynamics featuring seven inversions worldwide. Comparable structures from the same manufacturer were demolished in 2002 and 2010.
