Road Runner Express, Steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain, United States.
Road Runner Express is a steel roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, California. The track follows gentle curves with no inversions, making it one of the park's rides aimed at families with younger children.
The coaster opened in 2000 at Jazzland in New Orleans under the name Rex's Rail Runner. After Hurricane Katrina damaged the original park, it was relocated to Six Flags Magic Mountain, where it still operates today.
The station and track area feature Warner Bros. Looney Tunes characters, with Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote decorations throughout. Children tend to recognize the characters right away, which makes even the wait in line part of the fun.
There is a minimum height requirement to ride, and the coaster is best suited for younger children trying a roller coaster for the first time. Visiting early in the morning or later in the afternoon tends to mean shorter wait times.
Instead of a traditional chain lift, this coaster uses drive tires to pull the train up the hill. Each train holds 16 riders across eight two-person cars, which is a less common setup for a family coaster of this size.
