Fountains of Bellagio, Musical fountain display at Las Vegas Strip, United States
The Fountains of Bellagio consist of over 1,200 water jets and thousands of lights spread across a large lake, launching water streams up to 460 feet (140 meters) high. The system creates constantly changing patterns and shapes that are clearly visible from the street.
The project was commissioned in 1995 and completed in 1998 as part of the Bellagio resort opening. The concept was groundbreaking at the time and quickly became one of the most recognized shows on the Las Vegas Strip.
The shows feature a diverse music selection ranging from classical pieces to modern songs, all synchronized with the water and light effects. Visitors watch music come alive through the movement of water jets and coordinated lighting that follows the rhythm of each performance.
The shows run throughout the day with increasing frequency as evening approaches, and admission is free for everyone. The best views are available from various points along the Strip and from the lakeside itself.
The system collects roughly two tons of coins from the lake each year, with all proceeds going to charity. Few visitors realize this detail, even though it means their spare change directly supports local causes.
