Vdara, Resort hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada
Vdara is a 57-story hotel tower in the CityCenter complex offering roughly 1,500 suites ranging from 582 to 1,447 square feet (54 to 134 square meters). The building follows a curved floor plan with a glass facade that opens toward the city view.
The building arose from October 2006 as part of the CityCenter project by MGM. Doors opened for guests on December 1, 2009.
The entrance displays a large sculpture called Big Edge, assembled from 200 watercraft by artist Nancy Rubin. This installation sets a creative tone that differs from the usual Las Vegas hotel artwork.
The property allows neither smoking nor gaming and offers a quieter choice away from casino floors. Visitors find access to dining and a pool area without the noise of slot machines.
The concave glass facade acted initially like a focusing mirror and directed sunlight onto the pool, where it created unusually hot spots. Operators later added umbrellas and shading to ease the problem.
