CityCenter, Mixed-use urban complex on Las Vegas Strip, US
CityCenter is an urban complex along the Las Vegas Strip featuring hotels, residential towers, and a retail district, designed by different international architects. The individual buildings are connected through pedestrian pathways and a dedicated tram system.
Construction began in the mid-2000s as a response to growing demand for mixed-use development in Las Vegas. After several years of planning and construction, the complex opened its first sections to guests in late 2009.
Visitors walking through the public areas encounter sculptures and installations by well-known artists displayed in plazas and galleries. Many of the works use LED technology and stainless steel, harmonizing with the modern architecture around them.
The complex is accessible on foot from the Strip, and the free tram system connects the different buildings with each other and neighboring resorts. Public areas remain open around the clock, though most shops and restaurants operate during daytime hours.
Two residential towers within the development lean in opposite directions from their vertical axis, creating a distinctive visual effect. This architectural choice shifts perspective depending on where visitors stand.
