High Roller, Steel roller coaster at The STRAT Hotel, Las Vegas, United States.
High Roller is a steel roller coaster mounted on top of The STRAT Hotel tower in Las Vegas, Nevada. The track extends 909 feet around the observation deck level and carries riders along the edge of the structure at an elevation of 866 feet (264 m).
The ride opened in 1996 and became the highest amusement attraction in North America at that time. It closed permanently in 2005 after nine years of operation and was later dismantled to make way for other tower attractions.
The roller coaster represents Las Vegas's transformation into a family entertainment destination, expanding beyond traditional casino gambling attractions.
Riders were required to be at least 48 inches (122 cm) tall and reached the loading platform by taking tower elevators to the observation deck level. The ride lasted roughly four minutes and followed a looping course that extended beyond the building perimeter.
The installation was the first roller coaster worldwide to be built entirely on a high-altitude observation deck rather than ground level. Passengers experienced moments of negative force while suspended more than 800 feet (244 m) above street level.
