Rue de la Casquette, Commercial footpath in central Liège, Belgium
Rue de la Casquette is a pedestrian street in central Liege that runs about 240 meters from Boulevard de la Sauvenière to the intersection of Rue des Dominicains and Rue Georges-Clemenceau. The street contains clothing shops, restaurants, beauty services, and the cultural venue La Halte, which occupies the former Petit Theatre building.
The street layout was established in 1845 and underwent major renovation between 2013 and 2014. The work transformed it into a pedestrian zone with level paving throughout.
The name comes from a shop sign that once hung on a building facade, showing there was a hat store here. This kind of historic business name still shapes how locals remember the street.
The street is flat and easy to walk through since it is completely closed to vehicles. Visitors will find shops, restaurants, and services that are generally accessible during daytime and some in the evening.
A planned tram line will expand this pedestrian area to include the Carré district and reach Place Xavier Neujean. This expansion will significantly reshape the zone and better connect it to the rest of the center.
