Macau Maritime Museum, Maritime museum in São Lourenço, China.
The Macau Maritime Museum is a museum building in the São Lourenço district, organized into four exhibition areas covering maritime history, technology, folklore, and aquatic life. It stands near the water at the southern tip of the Macau Peninsula, close to A-Ma Temple.
The museum opened in 1987 on the site where Portuguese sailors first landed in Macau during the 16th century. The choice of that location was deliberate, marking the starting point of Portuguese presence in the territory.
The exhibitions display traditional fishing boats, navigation tools, and everyday objects from life on the water, all arranged so visitors can get close. The model junks and sampans on show give a clear sense of how local fishing and trading communities worked for centuries.
The museum is located at the southern tip of the Macau Peninsula, within easy walking distance of the harbor and A-Ma Temple. Visiting on a weekday tends to be quieter than on weekends, when more visitors arrive.
The building is shaped to resemble a ship, with facade details that recall a vessel's prow. From the teahouse attached to the museum, you can look directly across the water toward Zhuhai City on the Chinese mainland.
