Victor Hotel, building in Victor, Colorado
The Victor Hotel is a four-story brick building in Renaissance Revival style located at the corner of 4th Street and Victor Avenue. It features a working bird cage elevator, an antique bank vault in the lobby, rooms with brick walls and period doorknobs alongside modern bathrooms, and operates as a functioning hotel with a restaurant called the Side Door.
The original wooden hotel was built in 1894 to serve railroad travelers but burned in the 1899 fire that swept through town. The brick structure that stands today was rebuilt afterward and housed the Woods Brothers Investment Company, a bank, and rental rooms in its upper floors.
The rebuilt structure after the 1899 fire represents the town's shift from wooden construction to permanent materials that could survive disasters. Local stories and visitor accounts over the decades have made it a gathering place where people come to connect with the region's mining past.
The hotel sits at the corner of 4th Street and Victor Avenue in downtown Victor, making it easy to locate. The working elevator and modern bathrooms provide practical comfort, while the on-site restaurant and website booking system make planning your stay straightforward.
The bird cage elevator is the only one of its kind west of the Mississippi River and still operates as it did when first installed, maintained monthly for safety. During harsh winters when frozen ground prevented burials, bodies were stored in the attic until spring thaw made burial possible.
