Landstraße, Municipal district in Vienna, Austria
Landstraße is the third district of Vienna and stretches across an area with mixed residential buildings, public green spaces, and commercial streets beside the Danube Canal. The neighborhood combines dense development with occasional quieter zones, where history and present life meet.
The area developed from the 12th century onward and gained importance in the 18th century when Prince Eugene of Savoy built his summer residence there. This period shaped the character of the neighborhood and attracted further cultural growth over the centuries.
The Belvedere Palace houses masterworks of Austrian artists and shows how the local art scene shaped itself in the early 20th century through works by Klimt and Schiele. When visiting, you notice how these artworks have become part of the local identity.
The Wien Mitte transportation hub connects the neighborhood to international destinations via the airport train and multiple subway and tram lines. The good connections make it easy to explore the area and travel quickly to other parts of the city.
The Hundertwasserhaus stands out with its irregular shapes and brightly colored facades, with trees growing from inside the rooms and from the roof. This unusual apartment building shows a completely different architectural style from the rest of the neighborhood and regularly attracts visitors.
