Praxmarerkarspitzen

Praxmarerkarspitzen, Mountain summit in Scharnitz, Austria.

Praxmarerkarspitzen is a mountain summit in the Karwendel range featuring two distinct peaks connected by a short ridge at around 2640 meters elevation. The north face drops steeply toward Hinterautal valley and presents challenging rock climbing terrain.

The first ascent was accomplished by mountaineer Hermann von Barth in 1870, marking an important early milestone in Alpine climbing history. The north wall was later named after Otto Melzer, who died during a climbing attempt in 1901.

The north wall, known as Melzerwand, received its name after Otto Melzer, who perished during an attempted first ascent in October 1901.

The ascent from Scharnitz takes about six hours and requires good fitness with significant elevation gain throughout. The route passes through Gleirschtal and Möslalm with marked trails giving way to steeper climbing sections.

The summit actually consists of two peaks separated by only a brief ridge walk that takes less than twenty minutes to traverse. This close connection allows climbers to experience both summits without significant additional effort once the main peak is reached.
