Baku Boulevard, street in Baku, Azerbaijan
Baku Boulevard is a wide coastal promenade that runs along the shore of the Caspian Sea through the capital of Azerbaijan. It is made up of paved walkways, green areas, pavilions, and art installations arranged across several connected sections.
The first version of the promenade was laid out during the Soviet period, when the shoreline was organized for public use in the mid-20th century. After independence, the city carried out major works that extended the waterfront and gave it the shape it has today.
The promenade is where Baku residents spend many of their evenings, walking along the water or stopping at the tea houses and cafés that line the path. The name 'Boulevard' reflects a long tradition of seaside leisure that has been part of city life here for generations.
The boulevard is easy to walk from end to end, and there are benches and shaded spots along the way where you can stop and rest. Early mornings and evenings tend to be the best times to visit, as midday can get very warm in summer.
Parts of the boulevard were built on reclaimed land, where the shoreline was pushed outward into the Caspian Sea to create more space for public areas. This means that some of the ground visitors walk on today was open water not so long ago.
