Hemnagar Zamindar Bari, Zamindar house in Gopalpur, Bangladesh
The two-story Hemnagar Zamindar Bari spans 30 acres and contains 100 rooms divided into three sections, featuring a court and two large ponds with paved ghats.
Constructed in 1890 by Hemchandra Chowdhury, this residence served as the center of the Shimulia Pargana zamindari estate until the family relocated to Calcutta after India's partition.
The architecture combines Islamic arches with Greek design elements, decorated with sugar cane patterns and colorful glass inserts depicting flowers, stars, trees, and geometric shapes.
Visitors can reach the site by taking a bus from Dhaka's Mohakhali terminal to Gopalpur, followed by a local auto-rickshaw ride to the property.
The building, known locally as the fairy building, now houses the Hemnagar Degree College while maintaining its historical architectural features and sprawling grounds.
