Mohera Jamider Bari, Historical museum in Mirzapur Upazila, Bangladesh.
Mohera Jamider Bari is a colonial-era estate in Mirzapur Upazila, Bangladesh, made up of several historic buildings including Maharaj Lodge, Chowdhury Lodge, and Ananda Lodge. The grounds are dotted with ponds and open green areas, and the site is now run as a police training center.
The estate was built in 1890 by Kali Charan Saha as a statement of wealth during British rule. It was damaged in 1971 during the war of independence, and a number of people living on the grounds lost their lives at that time.
The buildings here show how wealthy landowners during British rule expressed their status through architecture, mixing European and Bengali styles. Visitors can still read this social order in the layout of the lodges and the way the grounds are arranged around them.
Since the site functions as a police training center, access is limited in some areas, and it is worth checking what is open before you arrive. The parts available to visitors include a small zoo and a children's park, which are open to the general public.
The grounds contain a natural lake called Bishakha Sagar where visitors can take boat rides. This lake is often overlooked by those who come mainly for the historic buildings, yet it offers a very different way to experience the property.
