201 Dome Mosque, Religious complex in Gopalpur, Bangladesh
The 201 Dome Mosque is a prayer hall in Tangail District, Bangladesh, known for its many vaulted roofs. The central dome rises over 80 feet into the air, while the remaining 200 smaller vaults each measure around 17 feet and form a repeating pattern across the entire roof.
Construction of the building began in January 2013 on the initiative of the Rafiqul Islam Kalyan Trust, a foundation started by a war veteran. The project was completed within a few years and has since served the local community as a central place of prayer.
The name of the prayer hall refers to the 201 domes covering the entire roof, defining the structure from the outside. Visitors often notice the brass doors at the main entrance, their surface reflecting sunlight and showing the craftsmanship of local metalworkers.
The building stands about 7 kilometers from the center of Gopalpur and can hold up to 15,000 worshippers during prayer times. Visitors to the grounds will find facilities for medical care and housing for elderly people alongside the main prayer hall.
The complex features nine minarets, with the tallest standing in the center and reaching up to 450 feet in height. This central minaret ranks among the tallest religious structures worldwide and draws visitors who can spot it from a distance.
