Great Slave Lake, Glacial lake in Northwest Territories, Canada.

Great Slave Lake extends 469 kilometers in length with varying widths from 20 to 203 kilometers, making it the second-largest lake in Northwest Territories.

The lake received its name from the Slavey First Nations of the Dene family who inhabited the region before European fur traders arrived in the 18th century.

The water body carries traditional names in different indigenous languages, including Tideè in Tłı̨chǫ Yatıì, representing its deep connection to First Nations communities.

Eight communities, including Yellowknife, Fort Resolution, and Hay River, maintain settlements near the lake shores, supporting fishing and transportation activities throughout the year.

At 614 meters deep, Great Slave Lake holds the distinction of being the deepest lake in North America and the tenth-largest lake by surface area globally.
