Aurora College, College in Northwest Territories, Canada

Aurora College is a public institution operating three campuses in Fort Smith, Inuvik, and Yellowknife across the Northwest Territories region. The college offers programs in nursing, business administration, trades, and environmental studies through both in-person and distance learning formats.

The Adult Vocational Training Centre, founded in the 1970s, was declared a college and renamed Thebacha College in 1981. Arctic College was established in 1984 with campuses in Fort Smith and Iqaluit. On 1 January 1995 it was split ahead of Nunavut's creation: the eastern operations became Nunavut Arctic College, while the western facilities were renamed Aurora College, and the Science Institute of the Northwest Territories was amalgamated as the Aurora Research Institute. In 2024 the college put plans to become a polytechnic university on hold.

Aurora College signed Colleges and Institutes Canada's Indigenous Education Protocol, and its programs are designed around northern culture and the needs of the northern labour market. Scholarships listed for First Nations, Inuit and Métis students include the Gail Marie Jones Scholarship, ATCO awards, Enbridge bursaries and Diavik Diamond Mines trades bursaries.

Aurora College's head office is in Fort Smith, while its three campuses are in Fort Smith, Inuvik and Yellowknife; 21 community learning centres serve other NWT communities. Students can also study abroad through the north2north mobility programme of the University of the Arctic. On-campus housing is limited, covering single students and those with families.

The college serves a sparsely populated region where online teaching plays a central role in reaching students across far-flung communities. This geographic reality has made it a leader in developing flexible learning approaches suited to remote areas.
