Aklavik

Aklavik sits on the west side of the Mackenzie Delta near the Richardson Mountains, just below the Arctic Circle. The settlement spreads across the flat delta terrain in one of Canada's most remote regions.

The Hudson's Bay Company established a trading post here in 1912, which became a key administrative center for the western Arctic. This development shaped the settlement's role in the region for decades.

Residents refused a government relocation plan in 1958 and adopted the motto "Never Say Die" to express their determination to stay. This choice still reflects the community's spirit today.
