Aklavik, Territorial hamlet in Northwest Territories, Canada

Aklavik stands on the west side of the Mackenzie Delta, positioned 1.6 degrees above the Arctic Circle near the Richardson Mountains.

The Hudson's Bay Company established a trading post in 1912, transforming this location into a major administrative center for the western Arctic region.

The settlement maintains strong connections to Inuvialuit and Gwich'in traditions, with both Indigenous groups contributing to the local governance and community practices.

The hamlet remains accessible throughout the year via air transportation and connects to Inuvik through a winter road during cold months.

Local residents refused governmental relocation efforts in 1958 due to flooding concerns, creating the determined motto 'Never Say Die.'
