Kendall Island Migratory Bird Sanctuary

The sanctuary encompasses 26,000 hectares of tundra and wetlands along the Mackenzie Delta, featuring numerous lakes, ponds, and river channels with raised banks.

The Canadian government established this protected area in 1961 to safeguard a substantial colony of lesser snow geese in the northern region.

The location holds significance for Inuvialuit communities who traditionally conducted whaling activities in the surrounding waters of Mackenzie Bay.

The sanctuary supports two natural gas fields containing 4.8 trillion cubic feet of gas while maintaining habitats for 90 different bird species.
