Lagunes region

Lagunes was an administrative region in southeastern Côte d'Ivoire that consisted of seven districts centered around Abidjan, the country's economic capital. The territory included both the densely populated city and surrounding rural areas with varying landscapes.

The region was created in 1997 during Côte d'Ivoire's administrative reorganization and functioned as an administrative unit for roughly 15 years. In 2011, it was dissolved as part of further territorial reforms that restructured the country's divisions.

The region was home to people from many different communities, living in the capital and in smaller settlements across the territory. This diversity shaped daily life and local customs throughout.

It is important to know that this region no longer exists as an administrative unit today, having been divided into separate districts. Using Abidjan as a reference point helps with orientation, as it was the main hub and most important city within the former territory.
