Dja Faunal Reserve, Natural reserve in southeastern Cameroon.

The Dja Faunal Reserve encompasses 5,260 square kilometers of dense rainforest, surrounded by the natural boundary formed by the Dja River.

The establishment of the reserve in 1950 marked a significant step in African wildlife protection, leading to UNESCO World Heritage status in 1987.

The Baka pygmy communities maintain their traditional way of life within the reserve, practicing sustainable hunting methods passed down through generations.

Access to the reserve requires advance planning and coordination with local guides, as infrastructure remains limited throughout the protected area.

The reserve contains over 1,500 plant species and provides sanctuary for 107 mammal species, including forest elephants, gorillas, and chimpanzees.
