Jardin Zoo-Botanique de Mvog-Betsi, Botanical garden and zoo in Mvog-Betsi district, Yaoundé, Cameroon.
Jardin Zoo-Botanique de Mvog-Betsi is a combined facility for animals and plants in the Mvog-Betsi district. It features different African animal species and tropical plant species displayed side by side throughout the grounds.
The facility was founded in 1951 during colonial times and initially served to prepare animals for export. After 1971, Cameroonian authorities took over management and transformed it into a public garden.
The garden serves as a space for local communities to learn about nature and environmental conservation. Visitors can see how the plants and animals here connect to the daily life and surroundings of the region.
It is best to visit in the early morning hours when it is not yet too warm. The grounds are flat and easy to navigate, so almost every visitor can walk comfortably around the area.
The garden is home to rare Central African primates that are otherwise difficult to observe in the wild. These animals live in secured areas where visitors can study them up close.
