Daxing District, Administrative district in southern Beijing, China
Daxing District is an administrative area in southern Beijing covering roughly 1,000 square kilometers. The territory includes multiple towns and economic zones, with the airport terminal building standing as a major landmark in the area.
The area became a district in 2001 when administrative reorganization elevated it from its previous county status. This change reflected Beijing's expansion and modernization of its southern territories.
The Panggezhuang region maintains watermelon farming traditions that have shaped local food culture for generations. Walking through these fields, you can see how agricultural practices remain part of the daily life in this area outside the main city.
The district connects to central Beijing through four subway lines, including Line 8 and the airport express line. These transport links make it easy to move between different parts of the area and reach the city center.
Beijing Daxing International Airport opened in 2019 with a striking terminal shaped like a starfish. The building spans multiple levels and has become a new transportation hub for the region.
