Taizhou

Taizhou extends across 9,411 square kilometers along the East China Sea coast, positioned 300 kilometers south of Shanghai and 230 kilometers southeast of Hangzhou.

The settlement originated as Huipu Town during the Qin Empire in the 3rd century BC, later becoming a prefecture under Li Bian of the Southern Tang dynasty in 937.

The local population communicates in Taizhou Wu dialect, a variety of Wu Chinese that differs significantly from standard Mandarin and includes Min Nan influences.

The city connects to major urban centers through the S1 Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou Expressway and benefits from high-speed rail services on the Ningbo-Taizhou-Wenzhou railway line.

Taizhou stands out as the birthplace of the Geely automotive company and maintains its position as a center of private economic development in China.
