Xinyang

Xinyang is a major city in southeastern Henan Province, situated in a region of hills and river plains. The city grows with modern districts alongside older neighborhoods, while the surrounding area features tea gardens and agricultural fields.

The area served as a border point between different ancient states and shows Neolithic human settlements in its archaeological record. After unification under the Qin dynasty, it developed into an administrative center for the region.

The name Xinyang means "sun in the east" and reflects the local importance of tea, grown here for centuries. Visitors see tea plantations throughout the surrounding areas and local varieties served in many restaurants.

High-speed rail and major highways connect the city to other centers in the region. Visitors should expect a sprawling urban area and plan for local transportation to get around effectively.

Jigong Mountain nearby serves as a national park with Buddhist temples and natural rock formations. Its elevation makes it a cooler retreat during the hottest months of the year.
