Nanchong, prefecture-level city in Sichuan, China
Nanchong is a large city in northeastern Sichuan Province, characterized by hills and low mountains with green slopes and small streams flowing through the area. The city spreads across a substantial area while maintaining natural features throughout.
The city was established around 2000 years ago and served as an important administrative and cultural center through various dynasties. The renowned historian Chen Shou originated here and authored a major work documenting the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history.
Silk production remains central to daily life here, visible in markets where different fabrics are made and sold throughout the city. This centuries-old craft connects residents to their heritage and offers visitors a chance to watch artisans at work.
The city is easily accessible by air with regular flights from major Chinese cities to the airport just outside the center. Alternatively, regular bus service connects it to Chengdu, which takes about two hours, with onward buses to Langzhong taking approximately one and a half hours.
The historic town of Langzhong within the region ranks among China's four most famous ancient towns, featuring blue stone-paved streets and well-preserved buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Big Buddha Temple there offers insight into religious architecture of that era and serene views of surrounding mountains.
